all this cliche motivation

early summer, with graduations everywhere you look, is the season for people to spew out motivational "advice" to everyone they meet. and as a recent graduate, there's nothing you appreciate more than people telling you to "reach for the stars," "the sky's the limit," and "you can do anything you want" with the airs of someone bestowing upon you the wisdom of the ages, right??

out of all the cliched motivational one-liners out there, i think my worst is 'follow your dreams.' i hate it. first of all, by definition "following" something means to continue behind it. never catching up, never moving ahead. you can follow your dreams to the end of the world, but that doesnt mean that, once there, they'll decide to come true any faster than they did here. and anyways, since when was stalking anything acceptable behavior?? even if it is only stalking your dreams.
