the superstars sucked into the supermassive

after years and years of saying, "i should totally get that and read it" i have finally read ender's game by orson scott card because of one very cool individual who lent it to me. it's a science fiction book and the first one he ever wrote. you can tell by reading it that it was a pretty big inspiration for stephenie meyer's the host. i also realized that card is obsessed with the word fart. i dont think i've read a single book of his that didnt have the word fart used at least twenty times. it seems to be a favorite thing for characters to call each other with a wide array of adjectives added on to make each insult unique. and its not like he uses fart in lieu of "bad words" because he still manages to cuss a little in all the books. he also uses in it phrases like "last one there farts in a milk bottle." like, really? how does he come up with that? i think he just really likes the word.

anyways, the book's title character is a little boy. he starts out six in the first chapter. i have this problem with books with little kid characters that do amazing things. my mind can't wrap around the fact that they're so young. like he'll be six years old and then suddenly goes to battle or whatever and in my head he's suddenly not six but i dont really see him as older either, and then the battle is over and he's six again. it's weird.

i heard that they're thinking about making it a movie, which of course i got excited about for like five minutes before i started dreading the day it would premiere because you know it's just gonna get ruined. some books are really really good, but they would just make really crappy movies. parts would have to be censored to get a rating that would let the book's intended audience be able to see it. you can't hear any thoughts that aren't spoken or acted out which changes the way certain scenes are viewed. i'm a big fan of movies and love seeing adaptations of books even when they completely destroy the book, but i think that i'll always prefer reading the book and seeing it however i interperet it rather than how someone else did.

i think this follows the theme of "that's why girls shouldn't read scott pilgrim"...im referring to the fart word. not only to guys not outgrow sexism...they don't grow up in general.
